Episode 005: They Say It’s Your Birthday

Lots to talk about since last month. Harry Potter Release Party recap. Denver Botanic Gardens. Our friend’s bike accident and recovery. Eliana’s birthday. Grandma and Grandpa’s visit. School starting. Busy, busy.

Sorry for the jet engine noise in the background starting a little ways in. We were recording with my new laptop, and the cooling fan kicked in–didn’t realize how loud it was. Live and learn.

  1. Audrey Says:

    Hi Guys!

I’m listening to you as I type. It’s funny that we all have such different tastes in Harry Potter books. Here’s my order of preference: Books 4 & 7 tied for favorite; Book 3; Book 6; Book 2; Book 5 (Otto’s favorite); Book 1. So, where are your pictures? Didn’t you guys dress up? I shared ours with you, and I demand reciprocity! πŸ˜‰

Hope you have fun in school today and learn lots, Eliana!

    Love,
    Audrey (aka Aunt Audrey)

  2. Audrey Says:

Okay. I just heard the rest. First of all, a rant: The girls had to do all the food & cleanup work on that trip?!! Hello?! This is the 21st century! Had I been on that trip at your age, I would have been mad. I always hated to cook and to clean up the mess afterwards (ask your dad which one of us liked to help Grammy in the kitchen… it wasn’t me!), but I would be perfectly happy gathering firewood or putting together tents. Why do you think I do all the yard work and Uncle Otto is in charge of dishes and laundry? Someone really ought to talk to the folks in charge of that thing to have a sign up sheet or rotation of chores rather than such a sexist division of labor. Okay. /Rant off.

I’m a bit disappointed that there is no photo evidence of your Harry Potter costumes. I know your cousins were also looking forward to seeing you guys all dressed up. Oh well, we still love you anyway! πŸ™‚

    Love,
    A. (again)

  3. Rick Says:

I think Eliana wasn’t clear. The boys and girls switched off between cooking and cleaning up. There were five meals, and the girls ended up “cooking twice and cleaning up thrice” (approximate quote from Eliana).

I think the boys set up the tents because the big tents were on loan from the families of a couple of them, who were just more experienced campers than any of the girls.

  4. Audrey Says:

    Well, never mind then. πŸ˜‰

  5. grammy sheil Says:

CAMPING! ARRGHHH! Camping is in a motel 6.

Seriously, Ellie-Bellie, sounds like you had a blast. I think that might have had fun, too.

Thanks for the birthday and anniversary shout-outs for grampy and me. Here is a plan…..next year grampy and I will come out for your 13th birthday and have a sleep-over, and then we can celebrate your mom and dad’s 21st anniversary! What do you think?

Love you bigger than a breadbox, etc.

    Grammy

  6. There are Jews in Alabama? Says:

Great show, guys. The Harry Potter stuff is over my head, of course. But still enjoyable to hear how much y’all are into it. The bar/bat mitzvah camping trip sounds great. A marvelous idea. And the discussion of camp food was making me hungry!!!

Speaking of, have a meaningful Yom Kippur and an easy fast, Rick. (And you too, Eliana, if you’re one of those crazy kids who fasts pre-bar/bat mitzvah). πŸ™‚
